Increased Disk Space Quotas
|
17 Nov 1998
|
|
As a final enhancement, we've increased the disk space quota for each
Virtual Server package. In addition to adding more disk space, we are
also in the process of developing several features that will allow you
to use your disk space more effectively. We will announce these
enhancements as they become available.
The disk space for the Virtual Server accounts is now as follows:
Server A: 70 MB
Server B: 200 MB
Server C: 500 MB
Note: Additional disk space ordered in the past WILL NOT be
automatically removed. You will need to determine what your needs are
in light of the new quotas and then use the Reseller Backroom to adjust
your account quotas or you can e-mail "service@gilfordgraphics.com" your
adjustments.

Keynote Systems Backbone Benchmark
|
17 Nov 1998
|
|
Recent network upgrades ensure that your Virtual Servers are connected
to the Internet via one of the fastest Internet backbones available.
We've upgraded from 4 DS3s (45 Mbps) to 2 OC3s (155 Mbps) on the Verio
backbone plus a Sprint DS3.
Verio's backbone consistently ranks among
the fastest networks as measured by Keynote Systems, the world's leading
provider of Internet performance data. Keynote Systems offers an
impartial third party analysis based upon server response times over a
network. These measurements provide a sound benchmark for comparing the
performance of various national Internet providers. We have added
Performance Reports
of our network to our web site so that you can
review our network performance. The Verio backbone is consistently
rated among the fastest networks. You can view our network statistics
for the last day, 5 days or week at the following URL:

Support for Apache 1.2.6
|
4 Nov 1998
|
|
We will be upgrading all servers to the
Apache 1.2.6 web server
. The upgrade will be automatic and will not
require any downtime. You will not be required to make any changes
to your existing web server configuration files. For more information
on the Apache upgrade please refer to:
Note: The current version of Apache is 1.3.3. However,
Apache v1.3.x is still in a state of developmental flux by the Apache
Group. We will be migrating to the Apache 1.3.x as soon as the
Apache Group fixes more of the bugs in 1.3.x. We expect that when
the Apache Group concentrates its efforts on Apache 2.0, that this
will be a sign that the Apache 1.3.x has stabilized. We believe
that this will occur by the end of 1998.

User Installed Certificates
|
4 Nov 1998
|
|
The new build of Apache will support user installed certificate and
private key files to build secure connections via SSL. The certificate
and private key files are located in the Virtual Server file hierarchy.
By default, these
two files will contain the "*.securesites.com" certificate and private
key information when a new Virtual Server is ordered with SSL or when
SSL is added to an existing Virtual Server. However, using utilities
in the Reseller Backroom, you can store your own specific certificate
and private key blocks which we will install instead of our own. The
utilities are located in the Order Information Interface of the
Reseller Backroom.

Special HoTMetal Pro Offer Extended to Resellers
|
28 Oct 1998
|
|
SoftQuad, the makers of HoTMetaL Pro, has extended several exclusive
offers to our Resellers. HoTMetaL PRO 5.0 is a powerful web development
solution for authoring and publishing sophisticated web sites. One of
the best features of HoTMetaL Pro 5.0 is that it offers complete support
for the Miva Engine. Miva is a powerful server-based engine that allows
developers to create and add complex applications and database
functionality with little or no programming experience. Verio Web
Hosting has already secured a site license for Miva, so you can utilize
HoTMetaL PRO 5.0 to create Miva functions such as developing browser
independent customer service, e-commerce, and personalized content
applications. Please see the
Marketing Library
for more information.

Support for MySQL and PostgreSQL
|
28 Oct 1998
|
|
MySQL
is now available to all Virtual Server users. In addition, we
now also support
PostgreSQL. PostgreSQL is a much better database
than MySQL and has a lot of nice features. For those that have
reached the limitations of mSQL, support for these two databases
should provide you with welcome relief.

New Reseller Backroom
|
10 Aug 1998
|
|
A new revision of the Reseller Backroom Utilities and Interfaces has
been completed and put on-line. The Utilities and Interfaces are more
easily accessible and summarize key information more readily. There are
many content enhancements and additions to this new revision. Just as
the second generation of the Order Processing Scripts included real-time
activation, the second generation of the Backroom Utilities and Interfaces
includes real-time account management (disabling and enabling), real-time
customer data updates (contact info, address info, credit card info),
and introducing... real-time DNS data modification capability.
We welcome you to
take a tour of the Reseller Backroom.
